Health Counseling for Maintaining the Physical and Mental Fitness Status of Hajj Communities During the Waiting Period, Batu City

One of the goals and mandatory requirements for performing the sacred ritual of the Hajj is istitha'ah. This condition reflects the level of physical, mental, financial, and security readiness to perform the Hajj. Prospective Hajj pilgrims (CJH) receive training in Hajj health rituals independently and through a guidance program to prepare for istitha'ah. Therefore, the Faculty of Medical Education, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, held a Hajj health ritual counseling on Sunday, September 14, 2025, in collaboration with the Al-Ikhlas Hajj and Umrah Guidance Group (KBIHU) in Batu City. The counseling raised the theme "Maintaining the Physical and Mental Fitness Status of the Hajj Community during the Waiting Period.".

Starting with morning exercises together specifically designed for prospective pilgrims (CJH), this series of events continued with a pre-exam to measure CJH's knowledge of physical and mental training during the waiting period. The counseling was packaged in the form of a talk show with three speakers who are lecturers from the UIN Malang medical education study program. The first material entitled "Tips for Physical Fitness Towards the Holy Land" was delivered by Dr. Sakinah Baraja, Sp. B. The second material entitled "Calm Heart, Peaceful Mind Welcoming the Hajj Pilgrimage" was delivered by Dr. dr. Lailia Nur Rachma, M.Biomed. The third material entitled "Arranging Body, Soul, and Feelings Towards Hajj Mabrur" was delivered by Dr. Christyaji Indradmojo, Sp. EM.

In the talk show that lasted approximately 100 minutes, the prospective pilgrims were given an overview of the atmosphere they would face during the series of Hajj pilgrimages. The presenter also provided various tips for maintaining the physical fitness of prospective pilgrims during the waiting period, starting from conducting routine health screenings, maintaining personal hygiene, maintaining fluid and electrolyte intake, preparing medication from home, regular physical activity, to managing chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, asthma, and heart disease. In addition, prospective pilgrims also need to maintain their thoughts and speech while facing various conditions during the series of Hajj pilgrimages, as stated by Dr. Lailia, "The physical demands of the obligatory series of Hajj pilgrimages are very high and have the potential to burden the mind. Therefore, it is important for pilgrims to regulate the intensity of physical activity during the series of Hajj pilgrimages so that stamina can be maintained to perform their obligatory worship." In closing, Dr. Christyaji Indradmojo, Sp. EM conveyed to prospective pilgrims that this briefing aims to prepare prospective pilgrims to be able to perform the Hajj pilgrimage independently, regardless of whether or not facilities are available during the pilgrimage. So mental and physical preparation during the waiting period is very important.
