Poor, September 15, 2025– The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) UIN Malang is preparing to establish a Masters Study Program (S2) in Biomedical Sciences which is targeted to start accepting new students in the 2026 academic year. This program was initiated as one of the FKIK work programs since one year ago until now the issuance of the Decree of the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Number 775/B/O/2025 concerning the Permit to Open the Masters Program in Biomedical Sciences Study Program at the State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang in Malang City which is Organized by the Ministry of Religion.
The establishment of the Master's Program in Biomedical Sciences was coordinated directly by a special team led by Dr. dr. Ermin Rachmawati, M.Biomed., along with lecturers and academics from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UIN Malang. According to her, the program was founded due to the broad future prospects of biomedical science graduates, both in academia and the healthcare industry.
“"We hope that the establishment of the Master's Program in Biomedical Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UIN Malang, will serve as a bridge for students to pursue higher-level careers through our collaborations with international partners, including Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, and Taiwan. This will give our students the opportunity to undertake internships or receive scholarships at renowned universities."” said Dr. dr. Ermin Rachmawati, M.Biomed.

Previously, the Biomedical Master's Team conducted a feasibility study that involved analyzing the workplace, community needs, and comparing health sciences across various institutions. The study results indicated that graduates of the Biomedical Master's program have significant potential for development at UIN Malang, particularly in the academic, pharmaceutical, and biomedical industries.
In addition, the team also conducted a survey of FKIK UIN Malang alumni who had completed their Masters in Biomedicine studies and held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with stakeholders from the health industry, including Prodia, BRIN, and BPOM.. As a result, the need for biomedical experts is increasingly urgent, especially in the development of health research and products.
The main vision of this program is to develop integrative biomedical science that combines science and Islam with international standards, especially to support the improvement of public health and the health of Hajj pilgrims related to the aging process and degenerative diseases.
In the interview session, Dr. dr Ermin said that the plan to open a new teaching program in 2026 includes four main areas of interest, namely:
- Innovation program to prevent degenerative diseases in Hajj pilgrims.
- Regenerative therapy for Hajj pilgrims.
- Vaccines and control of infectious diseases in Hajj pilgrims.
- Biomedical application innovation for Hajj pilgrims.
This program will also collaborate closely with another flagship program of FKIK UIN Malang, namely HIPE.
With the presence of this Master of Biomedical Sciences program, FKIK UIN Malang confirms its commitment to producing superior graduates who are internationally competitive and able to make real contributions to the development of science and public health, especially for Hajj pilgrims.
