FKIK UIN Malang Holds IHYA Series 3, Addressing Strategic Issues in Infectious Disease Management with Sequencing Technology

The Master of Biomedical Sciences Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, held the IHYA (Islamic Health and Biomedical Advancement) Series 3 activity in collaboration with Nusantics with the theme “Molecular Approaches to Infectious Disease Management: GeneXpert, Herbal Antiviral Tests, and Sequencing Technology”. The aim of this activity is to enrich scientific knowledge and encourage the development of biomedical science from a modern health perspective integrated with Islamic values.

IHYA Series 3 is held annually hybrid On Friday, April 10, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. WIB until finished, the event was attended by students, lecturers, and health practitioners. The event began with a participant registration process, which was carried out online. hybrid, namely by being present directly at the activity location and online via the platform Zoom Meeting. After all participants joined, the activity was officially opened by singing the Indonesian National Anthem and the FKIK Hymn as a form of respect and formal opening of the event. Next, remarks were delivered directly by Prof. Dr. dr. Yuyun Yueniwati, M.Kes, Sp. Rad (K) as the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Entering the next session, participants received an introduction to the Masters (S2) Study Program in Biomedical Sciences by the Head of the Study Program as an effort to provide information regarding opportunities for further study in the biomedical field.

The main event of this activity was the delivery of several materials by the speakers, which began with Dr. dr. Lailia Nur Rachma, M.Biomed who presented material related to "GeneXpert: A Precision Diagnostic Tool in the Battle Against Tuberculosis in the Era of Antimicrobial Resistance". Followed by the presentation of material from Nusantics, the material was delivered by a competent speaker in his field, namely Jonathan, S.Si., M.Biotek as a Research Associate of Nusantics, who discussed "Unlocking Molecular Data: Strategies for Utilizing Sequencing Technology to Support Research Innovation and Scientific Publication". And closed with the delivery of material by Dr. dr. Avin Ainur F., M.Biomed who reviewed "From Ethnomedicine to Evidence-Based Virology: Evaluating Herbal Compounds as Antiviral Agents using Standardized Plaque and PCR Assays".

The event proceeded smoothly and enthusiastically, particularly during the discussion session, which demonstrated a strong interest in the latest developments in biomedical technology. In addition to providing a platform for knowledge sharing, the event also served as a strategic platform for strengthening academic and research networks in the biomedical field. Furthermore, IHYA Series 3 served as an opportunity to introduce the Master's Program in Biomedical Sciences to the wider community, particularly regarding opportunities for further study and career development in the biomedical field.
