In an effort to increase student awareness regarding the importance of creating a safe, comfortable, and mutually respectful campus environment, the Student Advocacy and Welfare Division (Advokesma) of the DEMA FKIK UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang successfully held an ADVOCARE Socialization activity with the theme “Sexual Violence and Bullying”. This activity provides a platform for FKIK students to understand the importance of having the courage to express their concerns, both directly and anonymously, thus minimizing fear and anxiety in voicing their opinions.
The socialization activity took place on May 7 and 8, 2026, in the basement of the Ali Ashobuni Mosque and was carried out online, attended by FKIK students from the class of 2025, the Governor of DEMA, and the organizing committee. The event began with an opening by the MC, followed by remarks from the Governor of DEMA, then the delivery of core material regarding the definition of sexual violence and bullying, the types of actions that constitute violations, the psychological impact on victims, and preventive and handling steps that can be taken on campus and in everyday life.
Furthermore, participants were given an understanding of the importance of creating a supportive, empathetic, and violence-free campus culture. This outreach also discussed the importance of student awareness of behavioral boundaries, mutual respect, and the role of students in supporting victims and preventing actions detrimental to the academic environment. In the context of health students, the relationship between humanitarian values and professional ethics in maintaining the dignity and safety of individuals on campus was also discussed.
The results of this activity show that:
- Students began to understand the existence of ADVOCARE as a medium for student complaints and assistance.
- Increasing student awareness of the importance of maintaining a safe and violence-free campus environment
- An active role is needed from all student elements in efforts to prevent, educate, and handle cases of bullying and sexual harassment.
- The importance of maintaining confidentiality and providing initial psychological support to victims before following up with the authorities.
Thus, the ADVOCARE Socialization activity is expected to be a preventive measure in increasing student awareness of the issues of bullying and sexual violence, as well as supporting the creation of a safe, inclusive, and sustainable academic environment.
