New enthusiasm was shown by new students of the State Islamic University (UIN) Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. A total of 3,300 new students participated in OPAK 2016. After a series of ceremonies for the 71st anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia, new students of the 2016/2017 academic year participated in the opening of OPAK 2016. This year the theme of OPAK 2016 is "Revitalization of the Ideals of the Proclamation with the Spirit of Ulul Albab", with this theme it is hoped that new students will become people with morals of ulul albab as explained in the Qur'an.

The chairman of the committee and the chairman of the university's Student Council in his speech stated that the 2016 OPAK Activity was not at the request of the committee, student affairs, or the rector but this activity was a structured activity that had a legal basis. They only wanted to guide new students to get to know academics, student affairs and campus culture, he also invited new students to throw away laziness, and devote themselves wholeheartedly to UIN Maliki Malang, to become a competitive university both nationally and internationally. In addition, they also invited new students to metamorphose from students to students, change their mindsets, etc.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. H. Mudjia Raharjo, M.Si as the rector of UIN Maliki Malang, said that this UIN campus is not just any campus, this campus was founded by fighters who have high ideals, science and Islamic experts. He also said that this OPAK activity is a structured activity that has a legal basis, therefore he advised the 2016 OPAK committee not to deviate, there is no form of physical violence, verbal, or shouting, besides there is also no book buying activity held by the committee. OPAK This activity is an introduction to Academic, student and cultural activities on campus, therefore OPAK participants must follow the Committee to learn more about the vision, mission, and ultimate goals of the University.

Furthermore, symbolically the Chancellor of UIN Maliki Malang also gave badges to the 2016 OPAK participants and opened OPAK with a balloon release, which was followed by the 2016 OPAK participants. After the OPAK opening, the participants entered the Sports Center to take part in a series of activities held by the committee.
