A Glance at the Basics of Building Naming:
Ibnu Thufail (Medical Building):
Ibn Thufayl was a physician. However, he also possessed profound knowledge in law, politics, physics, and philosophy. He was born in 500 AH/1106 CE in the small town of Wadi Asy (Latinized Guadix), 60 kilometers northeast of Granada, Spain.
In 1163 AD, Ibn Thufail was appointed as a doctor and personal advisor to Abu Ya'qub Yusuf, caliph of the Muwahhidun dynasty. He held that position for approximately 20 years. At the end of 1182 AD, he resigned from the position of personal advisor to the king because he was getting older. However, he still carries out his obligations as a doctor.
Al-Biruni (Pharmacy Building)
Among the long list of medieval Muslim scientists, one name is too important to ignore: Abu Rayhan Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Biruni (973–1048 CE).
His full name was Abu Rayhan Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Biruni, born in Khwarazm (now Uzbekistan) on September 15, 973. He came from a humble family of Ahlubait followers from Tajikistan in Central Asia, west of China. He was also known as an intellectual with a strong religious bent.
Al-Biruni was a Persian scholar, mathematician, astronomer, physicist, scholar, encyclopedia writer, philosopher, astrologer, traveler, historian, pharmacist, and teacher who made numerous contributions to mathematics, philosophy, medicine, and science. Abu Raihan Al-Biruni was a friend of the philosopher and physician Abu Ali Al-Hussain ibn Abdallah Ibn Sina, also known as Ibn Sina. He wrote numerous books in Persian and Arabic, authoring over 180 titles.
