Sacrifice is a religious practice performed during Eid al-Adha, and other recommended practices, such as fasting on the Day of Arafah, are also recommended. Slaughtering a sacrificial animal is also a way of sharing and emulating the example of the Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him).
Considering the greatness of the reward, the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang (UIN Maliki Malang) carried out the slaughter of sacrificial animals for 1441 H which took place next to the parking lot of the Ibnu Thufail FKIK Building on Sunday morning (2/8). The event was attended by the committee for the slaughter of sacrificial animals, the rector of UIN Maliki Malang, Prof. Dr. Abdul Haris., M.Ag., faculty leaders, and residents around the campus.
Prof. Abdul Haris., M.Ag said that Alhamdulillah this year he was able to carry out the sacrifice with an increased number of animals compared to the previous year. "My hope is that all FKIK academics, especially lecturers, can perform the sacrifice every year by inviting family members to spread the word to the community and can become role models for students," he hoped. After the welcoming ceremony, he symbolically handed over the sacrificial animals to the committee chair and was accompanied by local residents around the campus.
This year's sacrificial animal slaughter is a little different because it is being carried out amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Prof. Dr. dr. Yuyun Yueniwati PW, M.Kes., Sp.Rad(K), Dean of FKIK emphasized that the implementation of the sacrificial animal slaughter must still maintain health protocols to prevent the transmission of disease to all committee members involved in the slaughtering process and distribution of sacrificial animal meat. In addition to wearing masks, it is necessary to maintain physical distance, wash hands with soap, maintain the cleanliness of slaughtering tools and maintain the halal status of sacrificial animal meat.
The event proceeded smoothly, adhering to health protocols. Approximately 476 bags of sacrificial meat, each weighing 4 ounces, were collected from two cows and seven goats. These bags of meat were distributed to campus residents, including security, cleaning service, "The staff and employees of FKIK, as well as residents around the campus, namely Gangsiran Putuk Hamlet and Precet Hamlet, are entitled to receive the sacrificial meat," said Abdul Hakim, S.Si. M.PI., M.Farm., chairman of the sacrificial animal slaughtering committee.
