Poor – The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang successfully held the activity Workshop & Mini Lecture titled IHYA 2025: Reviving Biomedical Knowledge for the Ummah on September 2–3, 2025, in the meeting room. This activity carries the mission of strengthening biomedical insight and introducing plans to open the Master's Programs in Biomedical Sciences and Master's Programs in Pharmaceutical Sciences, which are currently undergoing licensing processes.

IHYA itself is an abbreviation of Islamic Health and Biomedical Advancement which literally means “bringing to life”. According to Dr. dr. Ermin Rachmawati, M.Biomed, as Vice Dean 1 and Speaker on this occasion, this activity was initiated as an effort to introduce, provide insight, and regular education regarding the development of biomedical science and its benefits in the world of medicine and health. “IHYA means bringing to life. We hope this activity can open the participants” horizons about the importance of biomedical science as an integral part in improving the quality of health services, research, and medical innovation,” she said when interviewed.

The IHYA 2025 event also has strategic value as a form of technical preparation for the opening of two new study programs at the Faculty of Medicine and Medicine, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, namely the Master of Biomedical Sciences and the Master of Pharmaceutical Sciences. "Currently, we are still waiting for the issuance of the Decree. However, various activities such as workshops and seminars are part of the self-improvement process to ensure that the program is ready to run in accordance with the vision, mission, and flagship programs of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek) and the Ministry of Religious Affairs," explained Dr. Ermin.

The Master of Biomedical Sciences program is designed not only for medical graduates, but is also open to backgrounds in pharmacy, public health, science, and biomedical engineering. "Thus, graduates from various fields can collaborate and contribute to the development of a more comprehensive biomedical science," he added. One of the advantages of the IHYA 2025 activity is the full support from GeneCraft Labs, a company engaged in the distribution of molecular biology tools and materials. This collaboration is not only a sponsor, but also plays a role in facilitating the overall activity, both from the theoretical aspect and the practice of clinical skills. "The collaboration with GeneCraft Labs has been very helpful for us. They not only provide equipment, but also provide technical support in implementing workshops, especially those related to molecular biology methodologies such as qPCR (RT-PCR), DNA isolation, and PCR amplification," explained Dr. Ermin.

Dr. Zainabur Rahmah, as the head of the organizing committee, stated that the IHYA 2025 participants came from various institutional and agency backgrounds, including Brawijaya University, Malang Health Polytechnic, Sweetener and Fiber Plant Assembly and Testing Center, Pasuruan Fish and Environmental Health Laboratory Unit, Malang Animal Health Lab Unit of the East Java Provincial Government Animal Husbandry Service, and the Large Ruminant Assembly and Testing Center. "The enthusiasm of the participants was quite high. This shows that interest in cross-sector biomedical science is increasing, not only in the field of human medicine but also includes animal health, the environment, and agriculture," he said.

IHYA 2025 was held for two days with a learning concept that combined interactive theoretical lectures on the first day and hands-on workshop on the second day. The material provided includes the application of qPCR (RT-PCR) for characterization Adipose-Derived Stem Cells (ADSCs), the disclosure of lactic acid bacteria in fermented vegetables through DNA isolation and PCR amplification, and the optimization of Real-Time PCR technology in health research. The three presenters presented were Dr. Abdul Malik Setiawan, M.Infect., Dis., Ph.D; Dr. dr. Ermin Rachmawati, M.Biomed; and Muchamad Nur Cholis, M.Si lecturers and researchers who have competencies in the fields of biomedicine and molecular biology.

Dr. Zainabur Rahmah expressed her hope that through this activity, FKIK UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang can improve the quality of human resources in the health sector, encourage innovative research, and support the fulfillment of the needs of academics and researchers. "We hope that the Biomedical Master's program that will be opened can produce competent experts, become a center of superior research, and raise the competitiveness of institutions both at the regional and national levels," she concluded. In addition, Dr. Ermin also emphasized that IHYA is not only planned as a single event, but will become an ongoing annual agenda. "God willing, IHYA will become a routine activity that not only provides education, but also strengthens collaboration between academics, practitioners, industry, and research institutions in the biomedical field," she said.

With the implementation of IHYA 2025, FKIK UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang is increasingly confident in preparing itself as a center for biomedical education and research that is superior, innovative, and highly competitive at the national and international levels.
