In order to support the program International Recognition and Reputation Universities through international research and publications, Project Management Unit (PMU) is collaborating with the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) of UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang to strengthen the university's academic and institutional capacity. This collaboration takes the form of international collaborative research and development as a supporting program for the project. The Development of State Islamic University of Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang Phase II which is the result of bilateral cooperation between the Indonesian government and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia through Saudi Fund for Development (SFD). Maulana Malik Ibrahim State Islamic University of Malang continues to strive to improve the quality and quantity of publications by its academic community through collaborative research activities between the UIN Malang academic community and researchers from outside UIN Malang, especially foreign researchers. Some points of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education are conducting research, studies, and community service. These activities aim to develop and advance science and technology and solve existing problems.
One of the international collaborative development research projects that passed the program was a research project initiated by several lecturers from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UIN Malang, in collaboration with lecturers from the Faculty of Sharia, UIN Malang, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Airlangga University, and international researchers from the University of Kuala Lumpur-Royal College of Medicine, Perak. The collaborative research project, entitled “Development of Halal Pharmaceutical Products From Chrysophyllum cainito L. for the Treatment of Osteoarthritis” consisting of several research members including:

The research not only involves senior researchers and lecturers from diverse educational backgrounds and institutions, but also includes students to strengthen international networks, hoping to significantly impact the development of science.
In order to realize the potential for cooperation and collaboration, the research team “Development of Halal Pharmaceutical Products From Chrysophyllum cainito L. for the Treatment of Osteoarthritis” visited the University of Kuala Lumpur- Royal College of Medicine Perak. The visit was welcomed by the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy & Health Science-University of Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fuad Shamsuddin RPh. in the Meeting Room of the University Administration Center, on Monday (05/12). This meeting was able to become a new milestone in the collaboration of Pharmacy FKIK UIN Malang through potential forms of collaboration. Collaboration in research programs and community empowerment has an important role in addressing contemporary global challenges, including strengthening communities in health and improving the quality of life. This discussion also became the beginning of a deeper collaboration between the University of Kuala Lumpur and more relevant faculties/study programs of UIN Malang.
International collaborative research on “Development of Halal Pharmaceutical Products From Chrysophyllum cainito L. for the Treatment of Osteoarthritis” is a long-term project to create a halal pharmaceutical product from kenitu leaves (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) for the treatment of osteoarthritis. The background to this research is that Osteoarthritis (OA) affects 240 out of every 100,000 people in Indonesia every year, and the majority of OA therapies come from non-halal and problematic glucosamine and chondroitin supplements. This concern is what made lecturers of Pharmacy, FKIK UIN Malang, Dr.apt.Burhan Ma'arif ZA, M.Farm. and apt. Novia Maulina, M.Farm., as the initiators in conducting research on “"Development of Halal Pharmaceutical Products From Chrysophyllum cainito L. for the Treatment of Osteoarthritis". According to previous research, it has been proven that kenitu leaves (Chrysophyllum cainito L.) contains high levels of phytoestrogens and is useful for its anti-inflammatory and antinociceptive activities. The research will produce a product from kenitu leaf extract, which will be mixed into herbal tablets and registered with the BPOM and BPJPH.
Deputy Director and Head of IIIP Faculty of Pharmacy & Health Science-University of Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, Mr. Ahmad Zakuan Khairuddin welcomed this collaborative visit, with the significance of activating productive and beneficial collaboration and cooperation. This opens up opportunities for broader research and policy collaboration for UIN Malang and Uni-KL in providing impact. Thus, this meeting is expected to be able to increase the level of collaboration between UIN Malang and Uni-KL to facilitate opportunities and intensive approach steps.
