AIPKI Congress 2025: Transformation of Indonesian Medical Education

Padang, June 27, 2025 – The Faculty of Medicine, Andalas University, successfully hosted the 2025 Congress of the Association of Indonesian Medical Education Institutions (AIPKI), which took place from June 26 to 29 at the ZHM Premiere Hotel. The event was officially opened by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Brian Yuliarto, marked by the striking of a gong by the Governor of West Sumatra, and enlivened by cultural performances and remarks from various national figures.

As a strategic forum, this Congress presents a dialogue session between the Director General of Higher Education and the deans of medical faculties throughout Indonesia discussing critical issues such as handling UKMPPD retakers and the shortage of specialist doctors. Delegates from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang also attended the Forum, namely Dean Prof. Dr. dr. Yuyun Yueniwati Prabowowati Wadjib, M.Kes., Sp.Rad(K), along with dr. Tias Pramesti Griana, M.Biomed. as Head of the Medical Education Study Program. and dr. Putri Wulan Akbar, M.Ked., Trop. as Secretary of the Medical Profession, and the presence of the three delegates confirms UIN Malang's commitment to strengthening national collaboration for the development of quality and innovation in medical education.

On the occasion, Prof. Yuyun stated, "This AIPKI meeting discussed various issues in the health and education sectors. The main issue is the transformation of medical education, including the handling of retakes and the shortage of specialist doctors." This is an effort to encourage a paradigm shift in learning and expand the number and quality of specialist doctors in Indonesia.

The second day of the conference focused on commission meetings, the accountability report of the AIPKI board for the 2022–2025 period, and the election of the AIPKI General Chair for the 2025–2028 term. Following the official closing ceremony, participants enjoyed a gala dinner and a city tour of Padang on Sunday morning. This event is expected to be a crucial stepping stone in establishing a new direction for national medical education, one that is more responsive, collaborative, and high-quality.

With a well-organized series of events ranging from keynote speeches, medical education policy dialogues, panel discussions, to the plenary session and election of the new AIPKI General Chair, the 2025 AIPKI Congress reflected the collective spirit of all medical education institutions in Indonesia to transform. The closing of the conference was marked by a gala dinner that strengthened ties among participants, as well as a Padang city tour that served as a warm conclusion to the entire series of activities. This conference was not only an opportunity for evaluation and reflection, but also a strategic momentum in designing the future of Indonesian medical education that is more adaptive, collaborative, and globally superior.
