MIDBRAIN 2020 Online Successfully Held Amidst the Pandemic
Saturday (31/10/2020) the Grand Final event was held Medical Scientific Competition and Award of State Islamic University of Malang (MIDBRAIN) 2020 was the culmination of a series of national-scale science competitions organized by the Medical Education Student Association (HMPPD) of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FKIK) at UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang. The event was a success despite being held online amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
There are two categories of competition at this year's MIDBRAIN: a scientific poster competition and a scientific essay writing competition. Both must align with this year's theme, "“Holistic Approach to Suppressing Geriatric Disease for Health and Well Being Among Pilgrims”" with several sub-themes focused on improving geriatric health and improving the health of prospective Indonesian Hajj pilgrims. From its opening in July (July 13, 2020) to October (October 7, 2020), 85 medical students from 27 universities across Indonesia submitted their work. All teams underwent a rigorous judging process, ultimately selecting 10 finalists for the public poster competition and 10 finalists for the scientific essay competition.
The MIDBRAIN 2020 Grand Final was opened with remarks by the Chief Executive, Muhammad Kemal, and the Chair of HMPPD Adithya Wishnu. Then continued with remarks from the Head of the Medical Education Study Program, Dr. Ana Rachmawati, M. Biomed., and finally, remarks from the Dean of FKIK UIN Malang, Prof. Dr.dr. Yuyun Yueniwati M.Kes Sp.Rad(K) who also officially opened the peak event of MIDBRAIN 2020. In her remarks, Dr. Ana hopes that events like MIDBRAIN can be held consistently every year so that they can increase the enthusiasm and optimism of students in their work and continue to upgrade their abilities.
Also present at the MIDBRAIN 2020 Grand Final were dr. Christyaji Indradmojo, Sp.Em, Dr. Zainabur Rahmah, M.Si, dr. Rizal Novianto, M.HPE, dr. Abdul Malik Setiawan, M. Infect. Dis., dr. Tias Pramesti Griana, M. Biomed, and drg. Anik Listiyana, M. Biomed. who acted as the jury for the event. The MIDBRAIN Grand Final closed at 11:00 WIB after the announcement of the winners. With the successful implementation of MIDBRAIN 2020, it is hoped that it can bring a broad positive impact both for students of the UIN Malang Medical Education Study Program and for medical students throughout Indonesia.
