DEPARTMENT OF CHILD HEALTH SCIENCES

HEAD OF DEPARTMENT: Dr. Lina Fitria Astari, Sp.A

Pediatrics, or child health, is a medical specialty concerned with infants and children. The word pediatrics is derived from two ancient Greek words: paidi, meaning "child," and iatros, meaning "doctor." Most pediatricians are members of national bodies such as the Indonesian Pediatrician Association., American Academy of Pediatrics, Canadian Pediatric Society, and others. Abraham Jacobi is the father of pediatrics.

In accordance with current developments in child health science, pediatric studies generally have 3 (three) scopes of study which can be broadly described as follows:

Clinical Pediatrics (Clinical Pediatrics)

Clinical pediatrics is a branch of medicine that studies the treatment of various childhood illnesses. Clinical pediatrics studies childhood illnesses from the perspective of pathology (severity of the disease), symptomatology (symptoms of the disease), epidemiology (disease spread), and treatment.

Pediatric prevention (preventive pediatric)

The aim of pediatric prevention is to prevent diseases that occur in children, including by carrying out immunizations, sanitation and cleanliness so that children will be free from diseases that generally attack children, such as polio, tetanus, diphtheria and others.

Pediatric Social (Social Pediatric)

Social pediatrics is a part of general medical science that pays attention to healthy children from conception to adolescence, while also paying attention to social, economic and social conditions., hygiene family and society
