DEVELOPED FIELDS OF SCIENCE

The scientific fields of the Medical Education Study Program and their constellation with other scientific fields at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim are described in the Medical and Health Science Tree as follows:

  1. Roots, describing the scientific foundations of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, include (1) Pancasila and Citizenship, (2) Philosophy of Medical and Health Sciences, (3) Indonesian, (4) English, (5) Arabic and (6) Basic Social and Cultural Sciences.
  2. The stem, depicts the scientific pillars of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, including (1) Studies of the Qur'an and Al-Hadith, (2) Studies of Fiqh (3) History of Islamic Civilization.
  3. Branches, describing the various fields of science and the integration of these fields of science within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, include (1) Medical Sciences and (2) Health Sciences.
  4. Branches, describing the fields of scientific study, in medical science include (1) Principles of Scientific Methods (2) Biomedical Sciences, (3) Clinical Medical Sciences, (4) Bioethics and Humanities, (4) Community Medical Sciences/Public Health.

The fields of science contained in the root section are intended to serve as a foundation for studying the fields of science in the following sections. Pancasila and Citizenship aims to educate students to understand, internalize, and practice Pancasila correctly, providing knowledge about the archipelagic perspective, national resilience, national policies and strategies to foster love for the homeland and nation. The philosophy of Medicine and Health science will foster motivation for medical services that are always accompanied by dimensions of humanity and divinity, thus also supporting the achievement of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. Language learning, namely Indonesian, English, and Arabic. Indonesian aims to enable students to speak Indonesian well and correctly, especially in the context of scientific work. English equips students in communication and understanding medical references, Arabic is given in the context of medicine, aiming to provide communication skills as one effort to increase competitiveness. Basic sociocultural sciences provide provisions so that students have social sensitivity and empathy, democracy, and civility. So the fields of science in this root section support the areas of noble professional competence (Pancasila and Citizenship, Philosophy of Medical and Health Sciences, Basic Social and Cultural Sciences), the area of self-awareness and self-development (Philosophy of Medical and Health Sciences) and the area of effective communication (Indonesian, English, Arabic).

The fields of study in the main section are the Study of the Qur'an and Hadith, the Study of Fiqh, and the History of Islamic Civilization. The study of the Qur'an and Hadith aims to enable students to understand the Qur'an and the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW as sources of law in Islam, through efforts to understand and master the concepts of the science of the Qur'an and Hadith and the universal human values contained therein. The study of Fiqh provides an understanding of fiqh in everyday life and the contribution of medical and health sciences in contemporary fiqh discussions. The History of Islamic Civilization provides an understanding of the history of the development of medical and health sciences in Islamic civilization and Islam's contribution to the development of medicine and health. So the fields of study in this main section support the achievement of competence in the area of noble professionalism.

The disciplines within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences include Medical Sciences (General Medicine and Dentistry) and Health Sciences (Nursing, Midwifery, Pharmacy, and Public Health). Integrated management of these disciplines within a single faculty building offers several advantages, including shared laboratory facilities, enabling the development of relevant and more sophisticated facilities, and fostering a sense of community and collaboration among physicians and other healthcare professionals.

The tree branches depict the core areas of study of the Medical Education Study Program, including the principles of the scientific method, biomedical science, clinical medicine, humanities, and community medicine, all aligned with the Indonesian Physician Competency Standards. The principles of the scientific method encompass research methodology, philosophy of science, critical thinking, biostatistics, and evidence-based medicine. Biomedical sciences include Anatomy, Biochemistry, Histology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Physiology, Microbiology, Immunology, Parasitology, Anatomical Pathology, Clinical Pathology, and Pharmacology. These biomedical sciences serve as the basis for studying clinical medicine so that students have sufficient knowledge to understand the concepts and practices of clinical medicine. Humanities include Medical Psychology, Medical Sociology, Religion, Medical Ethics and Law, Language, Pancasila and Citizenship. Clinical Medicine includes Internal Medicine and its branches, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Neurology, Mental Health, Dermatology and Venereology, Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Radiology, Anesthesiology, Forensic Medicine and Medicolegal Sciences. Community Medicine includes Public Health, Preventive Medicine, Epidemiology, Occupational Health, Family Medicine, and Public Health Education. All of these fields are taught in an integrated manner in a Competency-Based Curriculum.
